10 Favorite Day Trips in Puerto Rico

This post isn’t about beaches or really about water adventures. I already wrote a blog post on swimming holes, waterfalls, and beaches in Puerto Rico. This post will go in-depth more about different adventures on foot. I didn’t want to call it hiking because it’s a bit more than that. Below are my 10 Favorite Adventures Around Puerto Rico.

  1. Cueva del Viento https://goo.gl/maps/J2oqpCzbTZxKUiwS8 Tucked away in Guajataca State Forest located the south western part of Isabela. The state forest has accessible trails from the parking area to the top of the save. Please note: This is a cave. Don’t wear open toes shoes, bring a flashlight or three, and be prepared for a slippery and dark exploration.
  2. Yaucromatic http://www.yaucromatic.com/ https://goo.gl/maps/MbmVm62vN47ZAWkJ9 Okay this is more of urban exploration before hitting some nearby spots. After being devasted by hurricanes, artists have decided to renovate their urban center of Yauco by turning Yauco into a vibrant canvas of Puerto Rican history and expression. After hiking around and taking cool selfies, go spend a few bucks in town. Side note: Casas De Colores exist in Aguadilla as well!
  3. Cerro El Rodadero https://goo.gl/maps/FUBg2fjL7sfAFSbf7 After exploring the Casas De Colores in Yauco, you can drive up to the mountains and get some of the most breathtaking views the Puerto Rico “cerros” have to offer.
  4. La Zanja Trail https://www.alltrails.com/trail/puerto-rico/east-region/la-zanja-trail?u=i A multiterran trek that brings you to a natural swimming pool, “La Zanja” or “The Trench” in english.
  5. Mount Britton Tower Trail https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/elyunque/recarea/?recid=43409 EL Yunque could easily fill all ten favorite adventures however I had to pick just one hike and that is the hike to Mount Britton Tower Trail.
  6. Naguabo Infinity Pool https://www.alltrails.com/trail/puerto-rico/east-region/naguabo-infinity-pool?u=i Hire someone to take you. Requires access to private property. It’s long and treacherous but was my favorite hike and had one of my favorite views.
  7. Infinity Pools Patillas https://www.alltrails.com/trail/puerto-rico/east-region/infinity-pool-patillas?u=i More open to the public and much less treacherous than above. A short hike with two infinity pools at the end. It is a bit steep and prepare for mud in the rainforest.
  8. Las Salinas in Cabo Rojo https://goo.gl/maps/6aco2nkkoP38WZc4A The popular photos circulating of pink salt flats in Puerto Rico are here. Easily accessible from the side of the road or you can hike around some trails on the other side.
  9. Cañón San Cristóbal https://www.alltrails.com/trail/puerto-rico/central-region/canon-san-cristabal?u=i This trial is excellent. Start hiking down into the cannon to be greeted with an awesome photo opportunity of a cascading waterfall
  10. Cerro Las Tetas https://www.alltrails.com/trail/puerto-rico/central-region/cerro-mime There is a fee of $5/ car to park includes bathroom since this is on private property. However, Ramon is welcoming and this hike provides amazing views in the center of Puerto Rico
